Thinning Hair? You are Not Alone

Jun 21st 2021

Thinning hair is an inevitable reality for a large portion of the population. And while it is usually associated with growing older, that is not always the case.

Most people associate thinning hair and receding hairlines with male pattern baldness, but women certainly are not immune either. Thinning hair can affect everyone, and it usually happens for several reasons.

The most well-known reason is genetics. However, a lesser-known yet just as common factor is inflammation of the body and skin. Inflammation can lead to thinning hair, receding hairlines, and other skin conditions such as psoriasis and dandruff. Hair loss from inflammation occurs when the skin around the hair follicles become inflamed and weakens the hair root, eventually shedding the hair strands altogether.

Thyroid conditions are another major cause of thinning hair. Hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), and SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus) are a few of the most well-known thyroid conditions that affect both men and women. When hormone production is disrupted, it can affect the production of hair growth at the root itself. Certain medications that treat thyroid conditions are also shown to lead to thinning hair.

For those of us who have thinning hair, we know the struggle of trying to find the right product to treat it, and there’s certainly no shortage of products on the market. From thickening the hair to adding volume, there’s a product for every type of hair concern. But how do we sort through them all and decide which is best?

Finding Shampoos & Serums That Work

Before we get into the specifics, it’s important to understand which ingredients work to fight thinning hair and how. You’ve no doubt seen products lining the shelves that promise to thicken the hair. If you look at the back of the bottles, you’ll see active ingredients that claim to deliver results. Some of these ingredients may work, but they don't always deliver the best nor are many clinically proven.

GKL-02 is an active complex for thinning hair problems due to any cause. It works by inhibiting the different enzymes that affect hair growth. Specifically, GKL-02 works to block harmful DHT, which destroys the hair follicles. It boosts the production of the keratinocytes in the hair matrix– the building blocks of hair. It also aids in the formation of new hair cells altogether and strengthens the existing hair follicles.

Other common ingredients can treat thinning hair, too. Caffeine can stimulate hair growth at the root. Vitamin E and Urtica Dioica fight thinning hair by protecting the hair and keeping the scalp hydrated. Panthenol, a natural wheat protein, also fights inflammation by nourishing the hair follicles.
